This is nothing less than a superb product. I've never sharpened a knife in my life before, and it took me just under an hour and a half to put a crazy sharp mirror polished edge on three Shun kitchen knives.

If you're inexperienced like myself and are looking to get rid of those dull edges, look no further!

I love this system. I sharpened my first knife with it yesterday and it turned out very well indeed. The edge was consistent across the whole blade and I managed to get it to a mirror finish. And it was easy. There's also lovely feeling of satisfaction that comes with doing a nice job on a knife edge btw :).

As a complete knife sharpening novice, I decided, after a bit of research, to skip over the various intermediate steps and go right to something that folks were saying really worked. I've found that to save me time, money and frustration with other things and it's turned out that way with the Apex as well. You know how you sometimes buy something and it turns out that, for whatever reason, it's not what you wanted, needed or thought it was? Well, that's not the case with the Apex. The system works as advertised and I'm really pleased with it.

Shipping was extremely fast and everything arrived nicely packaged and in good order.

I like the bag the system comes in, but I’ll be cutting some custom foam for a hard-sided briefcase. I’m anal that way, but I love a good protective case with everything laid out just so. Also, I don’t have enough experience sharpening or with the system, but it occurs to me that keeping notes on angles, stones, etc might be a good idea.

The only thing I wished I’d do differently is to have ordered a diamond stone and a half inch stone as well. I think the diamond stone would be good for faster material removal, and the half incher is necessary for recurve blades (if I read the sharpening tips correctly). (Wouldn’t you know it, I’ve ordered a Benchmade McHenry Williams and it has a recurve blade :).
