For the longest lasting edge, use blade polishing tapes to create an ultra high mirror like finish.  They require a "polish tape blank" and have their own adhesive backing.  Edge Pro polishing tapes can be used approximately 5 times before they need to be replaced.  This grit tape is the same as a 25,000 grit Japanese water stone or 3 micron.

These tapes give really sharp and nicely polished edges. I just tried glass tape blanks and I think the tapes work much better on glass rather than aluminium blanks. Be careful of grit contamination and work really clean. I got coarser particles in the tape by wiping just once with the microfiber cloth I used on the stones! So use new tissue paper instead for cleaning the tape, wipe the blade and the blade table clean between grits and keep the different tapes and tape blanks separated in plastic bags. It takes just one coarse grit particle to mess up the polish. Luckily it's easy to feel a coarser particle as the feeling gets gritty rather than smooth. I believe the glass also helps in that regard. Ink up the bevel so you know you have the angle set correctly, these tapes remove very little material so it's important to be dead on.
