The best manual sharpener I have ever used. The Apex 4 Kit is an outstanding knife sharpener with deluxe accessories. Everthing and more!
This is the first sharpening system I have tried so I don’t have much to compare it to other than a whetstone which I’m no good at. Well worth the price. My knives have never been sharper and there was almost no learning curve. The videos were a great help for getting started. The suction cups are kind of useless so I’m glad I got the bench mount and the magnet is a must as well.
I've always had a hard time putting a consistent, uniformly sharp blade on a knife, and I had an entire kitchen drawer full of high quality knives that had all just been let go. Finally put up the coin for this system, and it does the job well. Took care of every knife I had, and was even able to bring back some severely damaged blades. The key is patience, and it will take a bit of practice at first - especially when using your non-dominant hand when you flip the blades over. Stick with it, it's worth it, expect to see increasing returns for your efforts. Also, I recommend getting yourself a digital angle finder to help dial in an exact angle for your blades - then keep a little diary entry someplace with all the angles written down of each blade, so you can very quickly bring the blades back when you notice them dulling again. I (mostly) stick around 19°-21° for larger, stiffer chef's knives, 16°-17° for my Japanese blades, and 15° for trimming and paring knives. Maybe 22°-25° for some pocket knives where durabilty is more important than simply razor sharp. (You can look up the factory angle of many manufacturer's blades online.) Also, watch as many You Tube videos as you need to help get you started. Confidence and skills will build.
Very easy to use, and excellent quick results. My kitchen knives are now sharper than they were new.
Probably the best knife sharpener I’ve had (I’ve been through several) and it’s excellent. Totally worth it. Fantastic customer service.
With a very short leaning curve this thing has exceeded my expectations. The quality of the materials are great and the storage bag is the cherry on top. Couldn’t be happier.
I have been sharpening knives freehand, pretty much since I was a kid. I have always sharpened for my kids and parents using different sharpening tools that I had inherited from my Grandpa. I always thought that I did a pretty good job. I was sharpening my daughter’s kitchen knives just before Christmas last year and I noticed that I had a very different angle on each side of the knives. I realized that maybe I wasn’t doing such a great job. At that point I didn’t even know that guided sharpening systems existed. About a week before Christmas I started looking at sharpening systems online. I looked at every type of system that I could find and read lots of reviews. One type of knife that I had never been able to sharpen was a filet knife. No matter what I tried I had never been able to get one of my filet knives satisfactorily sharpened. So one stipulation that I had was the system had to be able to sharpen a filet knife! After all my research, on Christmas Day I had pretty much narrowed my choice down to the Edge Pro Apex. The only question I had was how well it would sharpen a filet knife. So on Christmas day I emailed Edge Pro expecting not to hear back from them until after the holidays. Much to my surprise in fifteen minutes they replied. Talk about customer service! That sold me, along with the fact that I really believed the Apex would be the best for sharpening a filet knife. I ordered the Apex 2 on Christmas Day. I didn’t really think I needed the Apex 4 and would save some money. Since I received the Apex in January I have sharpened 75 knives. I am so excited about sharpening knives I have been sharpening for family, friends and co-workers. I have since bought everything that comes with the Apex 4 and also every accessory except the scissor attachment. I would give 5 stars to everything I have purchased. I take pictures of every knife I sharpen and have a spreadsheet where I record how each knife was sharpened. I also purchased the Edge On Up sharpness tester because I wanted a quantitative measurement of how sharp I am getting the knives. I check the sharpness of every knife before and after sharpening. This has greatly increased my sharpening pleasure. I am consistently sharpening any knife to 100-125 Bess which is sharper than a utility razor blade. So here’s my advice for anyone just getting into sharpening. Look no further that the Apex. It’s lack of a clamp changes the game! Also buy the Apex 4 and if you can afford it just go ahead and get all of the accessories. It’ll save you shipping because you will end up wanting them all anyway. The only thing I am looking forward to trying in the future are the diamond matrix stones. A quality product, great customer service, and made in the US. What more can you ask for? Sorry this was so long but I could go on and on about this sharpener. I can’t tell you how appalled I am with how dull people’s knives are and the joy I get in giving them their knives back razor sharp! Most people’s knives haven’t been sharpened since the day they bought them. Thank-you Edge Pro!!! I will be a lifetime customer!
Will recommend to family and friends.
Wow, what a great product. This allows me to very simply sharpen my knives to razor sharpness without any worries. I love this product.
At first it takes some time to get, how to use the kit properly, but after a while it is amazingly easy and a lot of fun to use. The kit quite expensive and if you order from Switzerland like I did, you pay another 100.- for shipping and customs. Nevertheless, I highly recommend the apex 4 kit! It is quite nice that a bottle is included, and the instructions are particularly useful.
My only regret about buying the Edge Pro Apex is that I didn’t buy it years ago! Since receiving the Apex about a week ago, I have sharpened 15 kitchen knives and 6 pocket/hunting knives. I consider myself a novice but the edges I have put on these knives with the Apex are professional in performance and appearance. I could not be more pleased. I have added the retractable magnet and the small knife attachment and both work very well. Thank you Edge Pro!
