Knife Sharpening Stones
The mounted and unmounted Edge Pro sharpening stones are designed to be swapped within seconds. With our wide selection of professional sharpening stones that fit both the Apex and Pro system, almost any knife can be sharpened.
Sharpening Stones Designed for Professional Results
If you sharpen for work or a busy home kitchen, stones matter just as much as technique. Sharpening stones can perform very differently depending on the steel—but what really matters is simple: the stone must be actively removing material. You should be able to feel it and hear it working at the edge. That feedback is what tells you the abrasive is doing its job. If a stone feels glazed or stops cutting, resurface it with the stone leveling kit—or switch to a different abrasive that better matches the steel you’re sharpening.
Start the knife sharpening process with coarse or medium grits to repair or reprofile damaged edges, then move up through finer sharpening stones to refine a clean, sharp edge. Finish with light pressure to dial in a razor-sharp edge and a smooth, consistent feel that holds up on modern steels. Edge Pro stones swap in seconds, so you can progress through your grits with ease and speed. Use them on an Apex knife sharpener or other Edge Pro knife sharpeners to keep your angle consistent across every blade. When building a knife sharpening kit, choose a grit range that covers repair, refinement, and maintenance—the right knife sharpening tools keep pressure controlled, feedback clear, and results repeatable on knives and tools.
Types of Sharpening Stones Available on Edge Pro Inc.
Edge Pro Inc. offers two purpose-built lines of sharpening stones, designed to cover everything from everyday kitchen knives to modern super steels—without the confusion.
Our standard Edge Pro stones are aluminum-oxide water stones (with the exception of the 120 grit, which uses silicon carbide). They’re effective, easy to use, and more than sufficient for most knives and steels. For modern “super steel” blades, our Premium Diamond Matrix stones cut faster and more effectively. They shed less of their own material, stay flatter longer, last significantly longer, and are noticeably cleaner to use at the bench.
Both stone lines are offered in the 6" × 1" format—the size most competitors have adopted—and our stock stones are also available in a 6" × ½" option for recurve blades.
When building your progression, start with coarser sharpening stones to bite quickly and remove fatigued steel for bevel work and repairs, then step up through finer grits to refine the edge and clean up the scratch pattern. Choose the stock water stones for smooth feedback and reliable results on most knives, or move to the Diamond Matrix stones when you need better performance on hard, wear-resistant steels. Finish with fine stones to produce a crisp, razor-sharp edge.
Whether you’re running an Apex knife sharpener, BevelTech, or other Edge Pro-like knife sharpeners, matching the right stone line and grit progression to your steel is what keeps knife sharpening fast, clean, and repeatable across every blade.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. All of the stones Edge Pro sells are 6” long, and all Edge Pro systems use a 6” long stone, and need to be mounted on a 6 ¼” stone blank to be utilized with our knife sharpening systems. The BevelTech has an adjustable stone holder which can take longer or shorter stones, but is designed to primarily be used with a 6” stone which is the industry standard.
We sell some of the stones in the “unmounted” format, for customers who want to save a little bit of money and recycle the stone blanks that came on their original stones, and glue the stones on themselves.
Some after-market stones require soaking, but Edge Pro stones do not. Edge Pro stones work with a splash of water, while others may perform best after a brief soak. Use the guidance for your specific sharpening stones and watch the surface. Remember, sharpening stones do require maintenance for best performance, ours are no exception. If the stone is not cutting (removing material) or the cutting surface of the stone has become uneven, resurfacing the stone with our stone leveling kit is highly recommended.
Short answer: yes.
Between our standard Edge Pro stones and our Diamond Matrix line, you can sharpen any knife you throw at the system — kitchen knives, outdoor blades, and everyday carry.
The only real rule is simple: match the grit and the abrasive to the steel.
Softer and traditional steels shine with our standard stones.
When you get into modern super steels, the Diamond Matrix stones cut faster and more efficiently.
Yes. You can use Edge Pro stones to sharpen scissors and other tools, but sharpening scissors, loppers, pruners, and chisels requires the scissor attachment. Coarser stones restore a working edge, while finer stones help finish.
